1. Roof Preparation & Ventilation
Upon arrival, the newly constructed hand-cut roof structure was ready for finishing. We began by felt and battening the roof to a precise gauge suited to the customer’s chosen reclaimed tiles. During this stage, we also installed an eaves ventilation system to ensure adequate airflow within the vaulted ceiling space.
At the client’s request, we incorporated several traditional features into the roofing design. The verges were finished with mortar-bedded handmade reclaimed peg tiles used as undercloak, achieving an authentic and characterful appearance.
Each dormer was expertly clad in Code 5 lead, providing both a classic aesthetic and long-lasting weather protection.
The reclaimed tiles supplied by the client were carefully laid across the roof, with every tile fixed using nails to withstand the property’s exposed and windy location. Where existing nail holes were damaged, new ones were drilled to ensure a secure and even installation throughout.
5. Valley Detailing & Finishing
All roof valleys were mortar-bedded for strength and durability, with the leadwork oiled once pointed to enhance protection against the elements.
The final ridge details were bedded in white cement mortar, with bespoke end ridge features designed to complement the surrounding brickwork and provide a refined finishing touch to the roofline.
The completed roof achieved an authentic, high-quality finish, thanks to traditional detailing like mortar-bedded reclaimed peg tiles on the verges.
The expert application of Code 5 leadwork on the dormers and the final precise ridge detailing ensures the roof is not only aesthetically beautiful but also robustly protected against the elements, meeting the highest standards of durability.
